Hongjitang Smart Pharmacy emerged from the rich culture of Hongjitang's traditional Chinese medicine enterprise, with the first phase of the project launching on September 28, 2020. On November 25, 2019, during an inspection and research visit to Hongjitang Pharmaceutical, Director-General Yu Wenming of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine proposed the concept of "three medical linkages," providing specific guidance to "make it convenient to see a TCM doctor, ensure safety in consuming Chinese medicine, guarantee medical insurance coverage, and preserve cultural heritage." Under the guidance of the Shandong Provincial Health Commission, and with strong support from the Jinan Municipal Health Commission, the Jinan Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Jinan Science and Technology Bureau, the Jinan Market Supervision Administration, the Jinan Medical Insurance Bureau, the Jinan Administrative Approval Service Bureau, and the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Jinan Area Management Committee, Hongjitang Pharmaceutical was chosen as the pilot unit to establish the "Hongjitang Smart Chinese Medicine Pharmacy" platform.

Hongjitang Smart Pharmacy leverages technologies such as the Internet of Things, the Internet, cloud computing, and big data to integrate online and offline resources. It aims to achieve comprehensive, intelligent management across the entire process, including prescription review, Chinese herbal medicine dispensing, on-site preparation, decoction, on-site preparation processing, logistics distribution, medication consultation, and after-sales service. This integrated pharmaceutical service institution ensures full-process traceability and visibility of key steps.

Hongjitang Pharmaceutical (Laiwu) Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the century-old Shandong Hongjitang Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. The project  covering an area of approximately 213 mu with a planned construction area of 188,000㎡. The main constructions include seven production workshops, one comprehensive building, and supporting inspection and auxiliary facilities. The facility is primarily used for the production of oral liquids and solid traditional Chinese medicine preparations.Once the project is fully operational, it is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 1.6 billion vials/bags of oral liquids and 6,000 batches of solid traditional Chinese medicine preparations. Creating employment for over 1,000 people.

TThe project aims to establish a top-tier traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) production park in the province, with three main characteristics: 1. First Digital Smart TCM Park in the Province: The project employs advanced "5G + Industrial Internet" smart technology and integrates MES, SCADA, WMS, WCS, and other data, production, and warehouse management systems. This enables complete digital information collection across the park, making it the first automated, digitalized, and intelligent TCM production smart park in the province. 2.Headquarters and R&D Production Base: The project plans to produce two main categories of products: oral liquids and solid TCM preparations. It includes four types of anti-pandemic medications used in the treatment of COVID-19 (Compound Xiling Detoxification Capsules, Jinbei Oral Liquid, Jinming Tablets, and Pediatric Cough Relief Oral Liquid) and popular market products (Chufeng Essence, Sea Dragon and Gecko Oral Liquid, Xuefu Zhuyu Oral Liquid, Ejiao Blood-Enriching Oral Liquid, and Pediatric Digestive Tablets). Future efforts will focus on developing classic prescriptions, improved new drugs, and innovative drugs. 3.New High Ground for TCM Development: Leveraging the advantage of authentic medicinal materials like Laicheng Salvia miltiorrhiza and Xiao Huangjiang, the project plans to establish a standardized 6,000-mu (approximately 400-hectare) TCM herb cultivation base. This will ensure scientific, standardized, and industrialized management of the entire process, from seed selection to planting, management, harvesting, storage, transportation, and production, thus boosting farmers' income and setting industry standards to elevate the TCM industry.
